SOL NAZARIO School of the Arts Principal Trainee Program Faculty - Ballet Technique, Pointe Sol, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, received training from Nana Hudo’s Academy of Classical Ballet and Ballet’s of San Juan. Traveling to New York City through a scholarship by the Institute of Culture of Puerto Rico, she studied under Madame Maggy Black, Ramon Segarra and David Howard. Sol has performed as principal dancer with Ballet Puertorriqueno, Ballet Theartre of San Juan, Ballet Concierto, Ballet’s of San Juan and, at the invitation of the Government of Bogota, Colombia, Ballet Nacional of Colombia. She performed the lead role in many classical ballets including "The Nutcracker", "Les Shyphides", "Swan Lake", "Rites of Spring", "Tango Expectro", "The Merry Widow", George Balanchine’s "Rubies", "Serenade" and "Who Cares". She performed several original ballets choreographed especially for her such as Stravinsky’s "Firebird", "Vals of Ravel" and "Symphony in Three Movements". Invited to represent Puerto Rico in Barcelona, Spain, at the 5th Iberoameric an Festival, Oscar Lopez, Sol was a finalist with Cuban choreographer Petra Bravo’s piece “Que Signo Lleva el Amor”. In 1992, she joined recognized choreographer Gabry Christa from Holland and Gloria Lompart from Puerto Rico to found the dance company, "Danzadentro". Once again in 1991 she represented Puerto Rico in Barcelona, this time with her own choreography "Una Vez Al Mes". On two occasions, Sol represented Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in Caracas, Venezuela, in the "Latinoamerica Dance Congress" with Bravo's choreography "Un Solo Dueto" for Puerto Rico and Gabry Christa's "Matutina" for the Virgin Islands. She also traveled to New York City to perform “Matutina”. Sol has been teaching classical ballet from 1977. Sol moved with her husband Alex and three sons, Jack, Axel and Soel, to Jackson, Mississippi, in 2001 to join the ministry, where she is currently the Company Ballet Mistress and School Principal. |
