Abigail Helsel, from State College, Pennsylvania, began dancing at the age of two. She trained, performed, and taught at the Performing Art School of Central Pennsylvania, formerly the Ballet Theatre of Central Pennsylvania, under the instruction of Andrea Hill, Genna Mott, and Rebecca Maciejczyk. During the PASCP Summer Intensives, she studied under Nina Danilova of the North Carolina School of the Arts, Rafael Grigorian of The Rafael Gregorian Ballet Theatre, and Arron Scott of the ABT Corps de Ballet. For seven years, Abigail was a member of the Ballet Theatre Company, performing lead roles in The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Peter and the Wolf, Paquita, The Firebird, and more. She was accepted into the American Ballet Theatre’s Texas and Detroit Summer Intensives, as well as the Joffrey Ballet School’s New York and Joffrey South programs. She had the opportunity to study under Charles Maple at the American Ballet Theatre’s Alabama Summer Intensive in 2007, in addition to Andrei Kisselev and Marina Kotova at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy’s Summer Intensive in 2009. In 2011 and 2012, she attended Ballet Magnificat’s Summer Dance Intensive and was placed in the Pre-Professional level. She moved to Jackson, MS to join the Trainee Program in the fall of 2012 and toured with the Events Company to Honduras twice. Abigail was promoted to Student Apprentice with the Alpha Company in August 2014, and to Company Artist in 2015.
